Condition Assessment & Treatment Recommendations

Materials Conservation’s staff thoroughly examines the material, structure and condition of an object or building to provide a well-researched condition assessment on which to base an expert treatment plan to serve both client and the object.

In this phase of conservation, our researchers scope out how the object was made, its conditions and what is required for its proper care.

We conduct necessary investigations, such as using borescopes to examine an internal cavity, or perform discreet sampling of material to determine its composition and material properties. Following examination, we prepare a plan describing an appropriate course of treatment.
